If it was up to Stephen, we would leave the Christmas decorations up all through January and into February (and probably longer than that if I let him). He jokes and says that after Christmas, it just becomes "winter decor." I don't know about you, but I'm ready to pack up the nutcrackers and snowmen as soon as December is over. The house always seems to look pretty bare after all the festive decor is packed away into containers and placed in the attic. The months leading up to spring seem to last the longest! Finally when the days become longer and most of the weekend is spent outdoors, I'm ready to refresh and spruce up our home. This is my favorite time of year!

The entryway is such a great place to add a little extra jazz before entering a home. I believe the entryway can be a simple way to reflect what to expect from the interior of a space. When thinking about which plants to add to the planters, I first had to think about what exactly I wanted on the porch. First, I sketched out a few ideas and started my plant research. It's always a great idea to research plants that are ideal for your particular area and the setup of your home (ie; the amount of sunlight, temperatures, etc.) Ultimately, I wanted something that would look nice year-around, something that wouldn't bloom and attract bees, but also bring a little color to our porch, and could withstand full sun for a large majority of the day. After deciding exactly what I wanted, I took a trip to a nearby plant nursery to see what was available. I love using the PictureThis app which not only identifies different plant species, but it gives information about what type of conditions the plant will need and how to care for that plant. Being somewhat new to the Plant Mom life, the PictureThis app sets me up for success when learning to care for our houseplants and our yard.

Being relatively new to the area, I visited several local plant nurseries and garden centers, until I found the perfect place. I must say that this plant nursery, was like a dream! It was definitely gorgeous to say the least. I probably could've spent hours just walking around and taking in all the sights. I miss being able to go to my hometown local plant nursery and this one reminded me of home. There have been many afternoons that I would go just to see the store and any new updates; there's something about walking around the greenhouses that relaxes me. Such a beautiful and happy place to be. I'm thankful to have found this gem close to our home.

Using different planter sizes and heights helps give interest and movement to the overall design. I love mixing and matching different types of planter styles. Inside our home we have the natural terracotta pots as well as ceramic pots that are finished. In design, I believe it is important to have pieces that coordinate and compliment each other but not necessarily match. This creates balance without having too much of the same items in one space. I decided to mimic this flow to the entrance of our home, which gives it a welcoming feel.

I absolutely love design and being able to style our home in a way that fits our lifestyle and needs. That's one thing that I will continue to share on our blog. I hope you enjoy reading about design tips and home decor finds. There will be more in the future that hopefully will help inspire you to create and love your space.

With love,
